We’re excited to share that Trailmate has been selected as a Startup Alley semifinalist for ABA TECHSHOW 2026, one of the legal industry’s most respected showcases for emerging legal technology.

Each year, Startup Alley highlights a small group of companies building the next generation of tools for law firms. The semifinalists are chosen by an independent panel of judges from hundreds of applicants, and only 15 companies ultimately advance to present live at TECHSHOW in Chicago.

Being included on this list is meaningful to us—not as a marketing milestone, but as validation that the problem we’re focused on solving is one the legal industry increasingly recognizes as critical

Why This Matters

For years, legal technology has focused on helping lawyers think faster—research tools, drafting tools, analytics tools. Meanwhile, one of the most persistent operational bottlenecks in law firms has remained largely untouched:

Client-facing work.

  • Intake follow-ups.
  • Document collection.
  • Discovery responses.
  • Status updates
  • Chasing clients to complete tasks.

This work is repetitive, deadline-sensitive, and essential—but it consumes enormous staff time and routinely slows matters down.

Trailmate was built to address that gap.

A New Category: The Digital Employee

Trailmate is not a chatbot, portal, or productivity add-on. It is a client-facing AI agent designed to function as a digital employee inside a law firm.

Lawyers delegate an objective—run intake, collect documents, gather discovery responses, follow up with a client—and Trailmate takes responsibility for execution:

  • Contacting clients proactively
  • Conducting structured conversations by text or voice
  • Following up autonomously until tasks are complete
  • Validating results
  • Escalating only when human judgment is required

Firms supervise progress and outcomes in real time, without chasing clients or adding headcount.

Startup Alley’s recognition signals growing momentum behind this “delegate and supervise” model—and a shift away from AI as a passive tool toward AI as an operational teammate.

Built in a Real Law Firm, for Real Use

Trailmate was developed and tested inside a live, high-volume plaintiff-side law firm before ever being offered to the market.

  • In production use, Trailmate has already:
  • Conducted hundreds of hours of client conversations
  • Collected thousands of client documents
  • Completed hundreds of client-facing tasks autonomously

This real-world foundation is central to our approach. We believe legal AI should be judged by what it gets done, not how impressive it sounds in a demo.

What’s Next

Voting for the final Startup Alley participants is now open, and the 15 companies selected will present live at ABA TECHSHOW in March 2026.

Regardless of the outcome, we’re honored to be included alongside so many thoughtful teams building practical, execution-focused technology for law firms.

Most importantly, we’re grateful to the firms who have trusted Trailmate early, partnered with us in pilots, and helped shape what a true digital employee for legal work should look like.

We’re just getting started.
